Self – Care

The time is here again where a lot of us tend not to notice how much attention we give to the outside world, to work, family, friends, community and of course to what’s happening in the world.

Buying presents, going shopping (whether in a store or on the Internet), preparing dinners or organizing family gatherings, and many other activities pull outward into the material world.

Of course all of this is important too.

I do have a tendency to get lost in all the activity of preparing for Thanksgiving and Christmas and in that way I may accidentally neglect myself. I forget that I need to take care of myself first in order to be able to give to others, to be there for my husband, my daughter, family and friends.

By putting almost all of my attention on the outer world, I let my relationship with the divine and with my higher self just gradually decrease. So I have to remind myself on a day-to-day basis, to establish a nourishing routine that includes a practice to sustain myself physically, spiritually and mentally.

Sooner or later, we all have the innate or natural drive and desire to make our inner world our main priority, as it is there that we find peace. There are many ways to take care of ourselves. The first step though is to recognize where we are in our life, our situation and examine ourselves. Then go deep, live life from your truth within, and watch your innate beauty manifest outward. Start with just a five to ten minute meditation. Take a yoga class and or a workshop. Walk for thirty minutes without your phone and enjoy nature. Light some candles and take a warm bath with essential oils.
